Several years ago, Dee Tatum first saw the “Flowers of Hope” Project initiated by Denise and Virgil Hurley that was intended to help cancer victims. She was immediately struck with the power of the idea and wanted to bring it to her own community. Dee engaged stained glass artists who would make panels, identified a target group of cancer patients, designed and distributed a brochure to inform them of the project, arranged for an exhibition of the finished art pieces, and developed a plan to distribute the panels to the patients. —by Colleen Bryan
